Trigger Point Dry Needling has been shown to have several benefits.
It can reduce inflammation and improve mobility with a microfilament needle.
When there is a "knot" in a muscle that muscle loses its ability to lengthen and contract optimally. By providing a mechanical stimulus (needle) to the tender area we can get a "twitch rsponse". The twitch reponse is a representation of themuscle relaxing following a mechanical stimulus.
Once the knot is gone from the muscle it will be able to lengthen and contract easier.
Dry Needling can also be used to drive inflammation and help a tissue heal. The needle creates a minor amount of inflammation to trigger the brain to sent anti-inflammatory markers to the injured area. For the next 24-48 hours the area will be tender due to the inflammatory process, but after that the tissue will heal and ROM will be restored with less pain.
